Women’s Role Towards Effective Steps For Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Conference

Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with Hanns Seidel Foundation, organized a 2 day conference with the aim of celebrating the International Women’s Day. The conference highlighted the importance of the role of women, especially women with disabilities, in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

In celebration of the International Women’s Day, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, organized a conference which aimed at raising the awareness of young women on their role in the sustainable development process, while highlighting the important role that women with disabilities play as integrated members of society. The conference tackled many related topics including; the concept of sustainable development, the role of women in the sustainable development process, the importance of the inclusion of women in science and technology, a brief insight into sustainable cities and communities, the challenges and opportunities for funding and supporting sustainable projects and the contribution of women as the consumer and the producer. The participants included university students from 16 different governorates, as well as experts in different fields, including Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, Country Representative of UN Women Egypt, Secretary General of the National Council for Disabilities, Officer in Charge of the International Labor Organization, and Director of Climate Change Adaptation Department at the Ministry of Environment, who discussed the SDGs and presented projects and programs offered to Egyptian students to enact their role in the sustainable development process, as well as effectively participate in achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030: the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) and the SDGs.
